Stress Busting Diet to Help You Manage Stress

With today’s lifestyle and economy, we all would benefit by learning ways to manage stress. Many of us are aware that we need to control stress – and for good reason. Stress is linked to depression and many other life threatening diseases including heart disease, lung disease and cancer.

Harmful internal toxins are created during times of high stress. When overly excited, angry or afraid, your body releases chemicals throughout. Ever felt butterflies in your stomach every time you think of a certain person or circumstance? This is the release of harmful internal toxins.

As these extreme emotions happen to many of us on a daily basis, these chemicals are released daily as well. They will build up over time. Now you have the daily emotional issues and the built up internal toxins that add to and hold in fear and stress.

Added to these toxins are the chemicals in processed and junk foods. Music As Treatment For Anxiety

Music is very pleasant – even for those who are not particularly fond of it. It has the ability to relax the mind and body as well as generate positive energy. Music, as some studies show, increases the production of serotonin, which is responsible for the feel-good sensation in you. This is why many workplaces where they have strenuous work, introduced soft-playing background music. The results were amazing even when improvements were expected. Productivity went up by a huge margin and absenteeism came down. The inter-collegial relationship improved and overall the atmosphere of these workplaces improved considerably. As a direct result of these changes, staffing turnover also came down and with it the cost in training and orienting personnel in their jobs.

There is no special music associated with relaxation. What works with you might not work as well with another – so there are no rules or specifications here. There is no particular level of noise attached to it either. Some people find the drums (the louder the better) relaxing, some find violin or piano, some would rather enjoy a quiet classic symphony, while other would prefer hard rock. Anything goes, as long as you find it relaxing and pleasing to your ears. Themes [Read more...]

Surviving Stress during Pregnancy

Pregnancy in itself is stressful but excessive stress during pregnancy is linked to child’s development of some physical and mental disorders at birth or later on in life. New research suggests that extreme stress during the first trimester of pregnancy can have harmful effects on baby’s mental health. Schizophrenia, low birth weight, and other birth complications are attributed to stress during pregnancy.

While it is difficult or even impossible to eliminate stress for nine months straight, you can always limit your exposure to stress and lessen your body’s response to stress.

Take a time out – Accept the fact that while you currently can handle pretty well the demanding lifestyle and busy schedules, you may not be able to sustain it as pregnancy progresses. Thus, cut back on task and allow yourself to relax, sleep and rest. The most crucial period in pregnancy is during the first trimester. So if you can, take a leave from work the moment you know that you are pregnant or at least, be conscious of your physical and emotional limits. [Read more...]

Discover How to Relieve Stress With Water

Life can be harried and hectic. When the stresses of everyday life become too intense, wouldn’t it be nice to have a way to relax and escape for a short time? One of the best stress relievers is the magical, soothing effect of water. Here are some ways to use water to help you relax and lower your stress levels:

Add an indoor water fountain to your home or office
An indoor fountain with the peaceful sound of flowing water can be a great stress reliever and can help promote relaxation. Indoor fountains can be found in a variety of gardening centers, department stores and specialty stores. It’s even possible to build your own fountain for very little money. All you need is a ceramic or metal container, an electrical water pump, and a platform sponge from your local gardening shop along with decorative items for your fountain scene. Instructions for making your own indoor fountain can be found on the internet.

Take a fast swim in a pool.
A fast paced swim can be just the heart pumping action you need to relieve stress and tension as well as promote relaxation. Usually you can gain access to a public pool or a YMCA pool inexpensively. It’s a great way to stay in shape too.

Take a long, hot soak in the bathtub.

Draw a warm bath and add a bit of bath oil to create a pleasing scent. Choose a herbal scent that will promote relaxation and stress reduction. Play some new age music quietly in the background and meditate. You’ll feel much more relaxed and stress free when you emerge.

Study an aquarium full of fish.
Studies have shown that viewing an aquarium full of fish can lower both blood pressure and stress levels. If you have a chance, find a salt water aquarium as salt water fish are quite beautiful with their bright colorations.

Take a water aerobics class.

Although exercise on firm ground is an excellent stress reliever, exercising in a pool is even more beneficial as the buoyant force of the water can be quite soothing. Sign up for a water aerobics class at your local health club or YMCA and watch the stress disappear along with the cares of the day.

Open a window on a rainy night.

There’s something so soothing and relaxing about the sound and smell of a soft, steady rain. Open the window before you go to sleep and feel the stress melt away.

Take a walk in the rain.

If the rain is light, you may not even need an umbrella. A bit of light rain gently touching your skin can be quite therapeutic. Even if the rain is a bit heavier and you need to carry an umbrella, being outdoors in steady rain can be relaxing.

There are many more ways to relieve stress with the gentle, cleansing power of water. Try these water oriented relaxation techniques and feel your cares literally wash away.
